Here’s a brain teaser to get you warmed up for CIL. What is the object on the forklift in the photo? (Hint: It’s appropriate for a conference on computers.) If you think you know, put your answer in a comment.
The answer is: It’s a hard drive for the IBM RAMAC computer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_305_RAMAC) that was introduced in 1956. The hard drive had an amazing(!) 5mB of memory and weighed over a ton. Aren’t you glad you don’t need one of those today?
Could it be a hard disk drive?
Hmmm, could be!
Computer memory.
Can you be more specific? Memory for what, for example?
