What Web Managers Want to Know

Darlene Fichter, et al, did a survey in the Web Managers Academy Workshop yesterday about what more the audience would like to know.  She posted the results as a tag cloud — cool.  Thanks for sharing in such a visual way.  She and Jeff Wisniewski will be doing a whole session on Information Visualization Tools on Wednesday, a new session A304, which you can read more about on the blue final addendum sheet tucked into your program.  Jane Dysart, IL08 Conference Chair

Participatory Media & the Social Media Classroom

Good start to the Internet Librarian 2008 conference today with Howard Rheingold as our opening keynote.  I had noted earlier before we arrived in Monterey that Howard had a new video on video, Vernacular Video, and today he experimented with an multimedia show in which he spoke while videos, slides, and music were on the screen — great job!  He also encouraged our audience of Internet Librarians to help with in the participatory media literacy arena and work on the social media classroom.

Fun, Games & Networking

Taking advantage of the many workshops on Saturday and Sunday in Monterey at Internet Librarian 2008?  Then for sure you’ll want to attend the Sunday evening program — Gaming & Gadgets Petting Zoo in the conference center in DiAnza 1.   Join our gamers and gadget lovers for an evening of fun and playing. Bring your latest games and gadgets and try out each others’. See if you are a guitar hero, winning Wii bowler/golfer, or rank as a dancing DDR expert. Led by gamer/gadget gurus Aaron Schmidt and Erik Boekesteijn, this evening is only filled with fun, networking, and of course, learning and laughing. Refreshments included.

Eating, Networking & Having Fun

If you want to meet new people, and have company for dinner, check out the dine-arounds for IL 2008.  Sign up and meet your dutch treat group (everyone pays for their own dinner) either in the conference registration lobby (where the bulletin board has the printed lists) or at the restaurant the group has chosen.  Sample lots of good food in Monterey and enjoy fun conversations.  Groups usually have a subject/topic that may draw the group together.  Some groups end up talking about that topic but lots just gino with the flow.  Join  in and have fun!  Jane Dysart, Conference Chair
