Welcome to the IL 2009 Blog!

Welcome to the Information Today blog for the Internet Librarian 2009 conference!  Please continue to watch this space for news as the time for the conference approaches. The conference this year will be in the same place as last year–Monterey, CA. The dates are October 26-28. The concurrent Internet@Schools West conference will be on October 26 and 27. Click here  for IL and here for I@SW to see the advance programs and get full details. You can also view the conference wiki, where there is a wealth of additional information as well as lots of “helpful hints to the wise” here for IL and here for I@SW.

Pre-conference workshops are on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25.   New this year is “Library Camp Monterey” on Saturday, October 24 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Monterey Public Library–an interactive discussion about people, technology, and libraries.  The operative word here is “interactive”, this is definitely NOT a typical presentation event.  In fact, PowerPoint slides are forbidden!   Library Camp Monterey is Information Today’s first “unconference” and will be coordinated by Jenica Rogers, State University of New York at Potsdam, and Amy Buckland, McGill University.

On Sunday evening from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Aaron Schmidt, Jenny Levine, and Erik Boekesteijn will again lead the “Gaming and Gadgets Petting Zoo”.

Once again, the ITI editorial staff will be blogging both conferences live, so be sure to check this blog often. And if you’re planning to blog the conference and haven’t been in touch with me (or you’re not on the Wiki Bloggers list), please click on my name below and send me an e-mail. You will receive a special “BLOGGER” ribbon and your blog will be listed on the Other Bloggers page of this blog, which will give you lots more publicity.

Flickr and Technorati tags for Internet Librarian and Internet@Schools West are IL2009 and ISW2009, respectively. Please add these to your postings.  The Twitter tags are #IL2009 and #ISW2009.

On Sunday evening, Aaron Schmidt,  Jenny Levine, and Erik Boekesteijn will again lead the Gaming & Gadgets Petting Zoo from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

IL2009 is the 13th in the series.  It’s time now to register for the conferences and make your airline and hotel arrangements, if you haven’t already done so.

If you need any help or any further information, please get in touch. I look forward to seeing you soon in Monterey!
